Thanks for letting me take part in your survey. If you're serious about understanding psychology, you'll soon find out that such surveys won't teach you much more than how ignorant most people in society are about their own natures. Even psychologists come up with textbook answers that can often be matched, insight for insight, by local tea leaf readers.
The topic of racism is important but its semantics have been hopelessly entangled in political agendas of both the right and the left to the point where it is almost impossible to have a rational discussion on the topic.
To see what a serious attempt to develop a rational theory of personal dynamics might look like, I recommend you find time to look into the remarkable synthesis created by Paul Rosenfels, whose complete works are available at Carnegie Mellon University at .
Three Questions
(Please place an X after your chosen response. There is an area under each question for any comments you may like to make)
In your opinion do you think Racism between doctors and patients exists in Psychology?
YES ( X ) NO ( )
Comments: Racism exists everywhere, but it is not well-defined. Many kinds of racial feelings are benign and are even referred to as racial pride. I doubt that injustice resulting from the ordinary personal preferences (of the sort that are sometimes thought to be grounded in racial feelings) is a serious problem in the professional world. Naturally, there are shocking exceptions. Psychlogists occasionally commit murder, too, but should not be typified as murderous.
In your opinion to you feel that Psychology being part of a racist society, makes it difficult to keep racism out of the diagnosis of people from different cultures?
YES ( ) NO ( )
Comments: Honestly, Cecelia, the grammar of this sentence is practically impossible to parse. For starters, do you mean diagnosing racism in people or diagnosic people in a racist manner? Is psychology "part" of a racist society? What can that possibly mean?
Indicate, in which areas you think a Black, aggressive, alcoholic person, and a White, aggressive, alcoholic persons, would receive different prescribed treatment.
-Hospitalization ( X )
-Counselling ( X )
-Medication ( X )
-Criminal charges ( X )
Comments: To receive exactly the same treatment as another person just because they were from a different race would be the height of injustice. Every individual should receive different prescribed treatment. I believe in Marx' principle, "From each, according to his ability, to each, according to his need." Statistic show that blacks tend to live under very different social conditions from whites — surely, this is not news to you, Cecelia —and those differentiations frequently militate for different treatment modalities.
